Next month will be Matt and my ten year wedding anniversary! I still can't get over the fact that we are already celebrating it! We had the chance to have a weekend long celebration thanks to my sister in law and mother in law who watched our 3 monkeys! We naturally jumped on the chance to have a weekend with just the two of us! We had a blast!
We dropped the kids off on Friday and headed down to our favorite restaurant the Matunick Oyster Bar. It was so busy but worth the very long wait! It was fun just hanging out waiting for our table to be ready. We had great conversation and had some oysters and drinks! Once we were seated, we indulged in more food and drinks. It was a great night.
Saturday was fantastic! We were headed to Newport and decided to stop at a winery on the way there. We were headed to Greenvale but spotted Newport winery on the way. They had an outside Farmers Market with lots of gorgeous cheeses, fruits and vegetables. And oysters from our favorite restaurant too! We did not buy anything because we didn't know when we could eat it. However we wished we did. We had lunch at a cafe and headed into the winery. We were able to taste 5 wines of our choosing. They were great. We had a quick tour that showed us briefly the grapes but then took us inside to really go over how the wine is made.
After this we headed to Greenvale Winery. It was gorgeous! You could see the ocean in the distance, you were surrounded by grapes everywhere. This was very laid back. You had the tasting in the barn. You could purchase bottles of wine or glasses and head outside where it was so picturesque. Couples and families were relaxing on the grounds having picnics and drinking wine. What could be better than this! This is the reason why we wish we bought some stuff at the farmers market! The tour was fantastic. It was completely outside and you learned about the grape, all the different grapes! We loved it. The wine was good but we did like the first place better.
On Sunday we headed up to Salem, MA for the night. We wanted to go to Salem because that is where we started as husband and wife. It is such a quaint and fun town and there are a million reasons why we love it. It was great going back and visiting our old stomping grounds. We stayed at the Salem Waterfront Hotel, it was being built when we lived there. Though it was beautiful, you couldnt see the water which we found pretty funny. We walked around and visited some shoppes. It was pouring out but that didn't stop us. We also saw the Friendship of Salem sail away.
This is this huge ship that is a replica of an old merchant ship from the 1600's. We have visited it many times but never knew it actually worked. I guess this was the first sail in many years and it was very cool to see. We had dinner at Salem Beer Works which is where we use to go many times per week! Can you say blueeeberryyybeerrrr! Yum! Sunday we stopped at this little cafe which served the best and cutest cappuccino! We had such a great weekend!
Our actual anniversary is September 15th! I hope we can sneak away for a dinner!! Maybe another vineyard!
We speant most of the day here and it was fantastic. Afterwards we went to Newport for dinner. We ate at 22 Bowens which was fantastic however the service was terrible. No worries though, we still had a great time. After drinking more wine, and eating some food we headed out to town. We walked around a bit ran into an old friend, had a little more to drink and headed home. Thank goodness I did not have to drive!!! My hubby has a much better tolerance than I!
